However, Gilbert doesn't vote for himself this time. “I don’t think it’s appropriate to vote for yourself,” commented the American. His vote is likely to go to Jon Rahm. Consistency is important, but winning is even more important.

“Jon's performance at the start of the year, with his four victories, including one in a major tournament, is extraordinary,” said the 27-year-old. “We play to win competitions, consistency is important, but the main goal is to win golf tournaments, and Jon managed to do that at the start of the year.

» In addition to winning the U.S. Open by three strokes over Brooks Koepka, Jon Rahm also won the Tournament of Champions, the American Express and the Mexican Open. In 2022, Scottie Scheffler had four victories before being named player of the year.

Apart from Jon Rahm and Scottie Scheffler, FedEx Cup winner Viktor Hovland is also expected to be among the favorites. The nominees will be revealed by early next week and the winner will be announced at the end of December, giving Tour members a few weeks to submit their selections.

Respect for the rules is a basic element in the game of golf, which, almost always based on the self-control and free conscience of the players, often sees distorted results, consciously at times, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to non-compliance on the part of many players of the game rules.

In addition to rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the round with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an essential component of this sport.
