Despite expectations for Jon Rahm to win PGA Tour Player of the Year, the award went to Scottie Scheffler. Despite Rahm having more victories, statistics favored Scheffler. Rahm, on the Jim Rome Show, stated that Scheffler deserved the award and also discussed the crucial factors in choosing the Player of the Year. Rahm also recalled the year Patrick Cantlay won the same award.

"Oh man, listen, Scottie had a fantastic year. I don’t want to take away anything from what he did, but historically, hardware is what’s won basically the player of the year.

The year Patrick Cantlay won, I was basically the more consistent player, in 2021, had a major, I think I had 16 top-10s that year and I fully understood why Patrick won it.

It’s just maybe this year because of his high level of ball-striking, [the voters] decided to go in a different direction, but at the end of the day, it’s well earned.”- Jon Rahm said, as quoted by golfmonthly.com

Scheffler also claimed the Byron Nelson Award for achieving the best scoring average of the season. The American could not hide his happiness. What adorns this great golfer is his consistency from season to season. Scheffler is currently one of the best golfers on the PGA Tour, and these awards say a lot. Being a great golfer means being consistent, and Scheffler is exactly that. He is happy that his colleagues recognized his qualities, but also the effort and work year after year. Scheffler is the best example of a golfer who always gave his best and never thought of giving up. Scheffler can be an example to younger golfers that persistence and effort eventually lead to great results. We will see if Scottie can repeat the same successes this year and thus achieve a great feat by winning PGA Tour Player of The Year for the third year in a row.

"Obviously an honor to receive the award," Scheffler said.

"Anything that you receive voted on by your peers is very special to me and being able to go home with this trophy two years in a row now is very special. I think the body of work I put in last year with the consistency and finishing top most of the weeks that I played I was very proud of that consistency."
