Nearly seven years after his last victory, Grayson Murray (69 63 64 67) made a triumphant return to the PGA Tour thanks to an excellent result at the Sony Open. This American golfer, who fought and overcame alcoholism, demonstrated his worth in Honolulu by defeating compatriot Keegan Bradley (67 66 63 67) and South Korean Byeong Hun An (67 64 68 64) in a spectacular play-off.

Three years ago, during the same Sony Open tournament, Murray was involved in an accident at a hotel bar frequented by many PGA Tour champions. By then, alcoholism had taken over his life.

Murray said: "I was an alcoholic who hated the PGA Tour life and alcohol was my only escape.

I thought I wouldn't be able to get out of it, but I finally did. I've been sober for eight months and right now I don't want to change anything I'm doing." After two exploits in 2023 on the Korn Ferry Tour, Grayson Murray managed to regain his PGA Tour card.

His victory in Hawaii earned him prize money of $1,494,000, part of an overall prize pool of $8,300. 000 dollars. Murray has determinedly demonstrated that it is possible to overcome adversity and return to the top of professional golf.

Honolulu is the capital and most populous city of Hawaii, the 50th state of the United States of America, and is located on the south coast of eastern part of the island of Oahu, which belongs entirely to the county of Honolulu.

It covers an area of 177.2 km² and has a population of 345,064 inhabitants, approximately a third of the population of the entire county, which is instead equal to 953,207. It is formally only a census-designated place, since the Hawaiian constitution does not provide for the existence of municipalities.
