The Hero Dubai Desert Classic is one of the most anticipated moments on the DP World Tour 2024 calendar. This prestigious tournament, the first of five seasonal Rolex Series events, promises to be an exciting spectacle. It will take place from January 18 to 21 in the United Arab Emirates at the Emirates Golf Club in Dubai, with a total prize pool of $9,000,000, of which $1,530,000 will go to the winner.

Defending the title and trying to get his fourth success in this competition is Rory McIlroy, currently in second place in the world rankings. After narrowly missing out on the Dubai Invitational in the last edition, McIlroy is the main favorite to win.

Among his main opponents are Tommy Fleetwood, Tyrrell Hatton and Nicolai Hojgaard, all three European players who contributed to the European team's success in the Ryder Cup in Rome last October. The tournament will also host two great American players: Brian Harman, winner of The Open in 2023, and Cameron Young, who took third place at the PGA Championship and second place at The Open in 2022.

For Italians, this is an important occasion. Francesco Molinari, fresh from fifth place in the Dubai Invitational, will lead the Italian team, flanked by his brother Edoardo, Guido Migliozzi, Matteo Manassero, Lorenzo Scalise and Andrea Pavan.

In total, there will be six Italian players on the field, with the memory of past champions such as Tiger Woods (winner in 2006 and 2008) and Sebastiano Ballesteros (winner in 1992). The record of victories in the tournament, three, is shared between Rory McIlroy (in 2009, 2015 and 2023) and South African Ernie Els (in 1994, 2002 and 2005).

The Dubai Desert Classic is now in its 35th edition, and the prediction for the winner remains open, with numerous talented golfers from different parts of the world looking to clinch this prestigious title. Among the participants are also the Polish Adrian Meronk, the Dane Rasmus Hojgaard, the Germans Yannik Paul and Marcel Siem, the Englishman Dan Bradbury (who scored the lowest round in 2023 with 63 shots), the New Zealander Ryan Fox, the Chilean Joaquin Niemann, South African Thriston Lawrence (runner up like McIlroy in the last edition in Dubai) and Australian Adam Scott.

In particular, Adam Scott will play the first two rounds together with McIlroy and Nicolai Hojgaard. Another well-known name among the participants is Luke Donald, captain of the Europe team at the Italian Ryder Cup, confirmed to lead the European team in the challenge against the United States in 2025 in Bethpage, New York.
