Nick Dunlap became the surprise leader of The American Express 2024 with a stunning third-lap performance at La Quinta. This young 20-year-old amateur, who had already impressed in the Walker Cup a few months ago, stole the show by pulling off an incredible score of 60, featuring an eagle and ten birdies.

This exceptional performance allowed him to surpass all the professionals in the race.

His -27 overall score has made headlines, especially since he could become the second-youngest winner on the PGA Tour in nine decades.

However, it is important to note that he would not currently receive any prize money or points in the FedEx Cup rankings unless he decides to turn professional immediately following the event. In second place, three strokes behind, was Sam Burns, who finished with a score of -24.

Behind him, there is an exceptional Justin Thomas, who achieved an incredible -11 at the Pete Dye Stadium Course, taking him to a total of -23. Christiaan Bezuidenhout also walked the Stadium Course and is at -21. Several players are positioned at -20, occupying fifth position.

From La Quinta, there is the Canadian Adam Hadwin, while from the Nicklaus Tournament Course we find J.T. Poston and Eric Cole. From the Stadium Course, Xander Schauffele and South Korean Si Woo Kim stand out. As for Scottie Scheffler, the world number 1, also playing on the Stadium Course, he is in 39th place with an overall score of -14.
