LIV Golf has announced a series of improvements to its format ahead of the season-opening event in Mexico, including course expansions and changes to the way points and prize money are awarded. Funded by Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF), the breakaway circuit failed to reach a partnership agreement with the PGA Tour before the December 31 deadline, but negotiations are ongoing.

One of the latest big names to join LIV Golf is Tyrrell Hatton, who has signed up for an expansion team captained by Masters champion Jon Rahm and is making his debut in the golf course's season-opening event The Chameleon in Mayakoba.

The LIV Golf calendar will include 14 events this season, with the participation of 13 teams of four golfers and two Wild Card players. In comparison, the first season of the circuit had 48 players. For the final rankings of the season, golfers who finish in the top 24 will secure their spot for 2025, while those 25 to 48 will have to be re-signed by their team or selected by another to compete.

The remaining players will be part of the LIV 'Promotions Tournament' Additionally, in the 'Team Championship', the three best scores will count for the first two rounds, while the four scores will be added together in the third and final round.

The team with the lowest cumulative score will be crowned champions and win $3 million for the event. These changes seek to improve and enrich the experience of players and fans on the LIV Golf circuit. The inaugural season of the LIV Golf Invitational Series consisted of eight 54-hole no-cut stroke play tournaments and a final Team Championship.

The Team Championship, which took place in October 2022 at Trump National Doral Miami, was designed as a "seeded four-day, four-round, match play knock-out" event. In June 2022, there were reports of LIV Golf's plans to transition into a league format for the following year, featuring a 14-event schedule with 48 contracted players. On 27 July 2022, Greg Norman announced that LIV Golf would introduce a promotion and relegation system, including a rankings list and the relegation of four players from the contracted pool of 48.

The league boasts a substantial prize fund of $405 million and strategically schedules its events to avoid conflicts with major championships, the PGA Tour's flagship tournaments, and international team events.
