Jon Rahm, in an interview with ESPN, talked about his decision to join LIV Golf, the public reaction to it, and the reasons behind his choice. The Spaniard had tough moments deciding on a choice that would absolutely change his life.

Prior to this, Rahm had achieved great success in golf and become one of the top golfers. He was aware that joining LIV Golf could trigger a lot of reactions.

There were several reasons why Rahm decided to be part of this Tour. Honestly speaking, Rahm admitted that money played an important role.

However, there were also other reasons for his decision. Having more free time to spend with his family and the need for a change were just some of the additional factors. It seems that the brilliant 29-year-old golfer has no regrets about his decision.

“It’s a change. The best way I can explain it is LIV Golf wasn’t a thing or a possibility for us growing up, the PGA Tour was the pinnacle of golf,” he said, as quoted by nationalclubgolfer!

“This is a new change, a big change and I don’t want to skip through this point because there’s no point – a big change in the way the golfers get compensated. I’d be lying if I said it (the money) wasn’t a big part of it.

In a nutshell, I’m getting more to play the same sport and have more time. I don’t know about most people, but that sounds great to me.

From when I said that (pledging his fealty to the PGA Tour in February 2022), certain circumstances changed."

When news surfaced about a possible deal between the PGA Tour and PIF, some golfers started considering joining LIV Golf. Jon Rahm admitted he was one of them. However, several months later, the deal between PIF and the PGA Tour has not been finalized. Doubts linger about whether an agreement will be reached between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf, especially with SSG's investment in the PGA Tour.

When asked if he would have joined LIV Golf if he hadn't won the Masters, Rahm said he didn't want to think about it that way. He's hopeful that there will be a way back to traditional golf, but he admitted that winning the Masters made it easier for him to consider a change. Rahm also mentioned that if he hadn't won a major, he might not have thought about joining LIV Golf at all.

Rahm showed at last year's Masters that, in addition to his skills, he is a golfer with remarkable mental strength. He demonstrated composure precisely when it was needed the most. At no moment did he doubt himself and his abilities.

This is the reason he achieved the success every golfer dreams of when starting their career. Rahm is happy to have fulfilled his childhood dream, but that doesn't mean he doesn't intend to repeat it in the future. Jon hopes that LIV Golfers will have the opportunity to compete in Majors.

Jon Rahm was afraid of public and media reactions after joining LIV Golf

Rahm was worried about people saying bad things in the media if he joined LIV Golf, even though he had supported the PGA Tour before. He believes that, just like in a job interview, he has the right to do what's best for him and his family. As a father and husband, Rahm feels it's his responsibility to make choices that benefit his family, even though they are already privileged.

Social media today is a place where fans of any sport express their frustrations and often do not choose their words, criticizing not only you but also your family. No matter how mentally strong you are, such things sometimes reach you and leave an impact. However, Rahm knew he had a chance to fulfill his dream, so he had no choice but to endure pressures and criticism.

Jon Rahm admitted that he is happy given that Rory McIlroy, one of his colleagues, has supported him. Support from a golfer who is currently one of the most popular and whose opinion is respected is of great importance to Rahm. On the other hand, another golf legend, Tiger Woods, had a somewhat different reaction. Woods didn't want to react at all to Rahm's decision. This could likely be a sign that he doesn't support his decision.

This amazing golfer has nothing left but to focus on positive comments and build his career as before. It will be an important thing for him if PIF and PGA Tour reach an agreement. That is what Rahm and many of his colleagues hope for.
