Laura Davies, Anna Nordqvist, and Caroline Martens served as vice-captains at Solheim Cup 2023.

This year, Mel Reid will join them as a vice-captain, a role she also had in 2019. The European Solheim Cup captain expressed optimism in a media interview, emphasizing that there is currently no need to change the winning team. She is happy that Mel will be part of the team, considering her experience and qualities. Mel will certainly be a great addition to the team, indicating that the European squad has equally high ambitions this year

"With just over six months to go until the competition, I’m thrilled to be able to name my backroom team for the 2024 Solheim Cup.

After last year’s success, why change a winning team! I’m excited to be able to have the same team by my side but also with the great addition of Mel.

It was a very natural choice for me and the rest of the team to bring Mel in alongside us in a Vice-Captaincy role. She has an immense passion and head for the Solheim Cup.

She has the experience both from her time as a player and also being a vice-captain during the 2019 Solheim Cup at Gleneagles. She is all over this task and we’re excited for her to join us."- Pettersen said, as quoted by RTE!

Expectations are high for Mel Reid, given her impressive career.

The US team has another reason to be concerned. US Solheim Cup Captain Stacy Lewis aims for her team to provide even stronger resistance this year and finally secure the title. Playing on home soil will be an important advantage, but it's not a guarantee for success. They understand that without focus and maximum effort, achieving success won't be possible. Mel Reid poses just another additional threat to the US team.

Mel Reid and her impressions

Mel Reid expressed her honor and pride at being chosen as a vice-captain for the 2024 Solheim Cup. She expressed her deep connection to the tournament, emphasizing her love for being part of Team Europe and how the Solheim Cup shows the best of what golf has to offer. Playing in the Solheim Cup is the dream of every female golfer. The Solheim Cup attracts enormous attention from fans worldwide and becomes increasingly popular each year. The quality of golf keeps improving, especially in women's golf. That's one of the reasons why the Solheim Cup will generate interest again this year.

Reflecting on her experience as a vice-captain in 2019, Reid shared that it provided a different perspective and fueled her desire to be part of the Solheim Cup team in 2021.  The European team was more successful and deservedly celebrated against the U.S. team in 2019. Experience in such huge competitions is crucial for this golfer to assist her team again this year.

She considered the role as a great honor. Reid expressed excitement about joining Suzann Pettersen, Caroline Martens, Laura Davies, and Anna Nordqvist on the journey to make more history at the 2024 Solheim Cup in the US, emphasizing the team's amazing achievements in Spain the previous year.

Solheim Cup history

Looking at the history of this competition since the first Solheim Cup in 1990, the U.S. team has been more successful with 10 victories, while the European team has 8 victories. For this reason, the European team will have additional motivation to get closer to the U.S. team and try to equalize the number of titles. It will be a tough challenge but not impossible. On the other hand, the U.S. team has failed to secure a victory in the last three Solheim Cups and believes it's time to finally achieve their goal. This year's Solheim Cup promises a lot of excitement; both teams have quality golfers who can make a difference.

Stacy Lewis wants to work hard with the team, address the mistakes from previous competitions, and motivate them to give their best this year. Lewis believes it's time for a victory.
