At the prestigious Copa Real Club de Golf Sotogrande – European Nations Championship held at the Real Club de Golf de Sotogrande near Cadiz, Spain, Italy, represented by Michele Ferrero, Luca Memeo, Marco Florioli, and Lucas Nicolas Fallotico, secured fifth place in the team standings with a total score of 872 (+8).

Michele Ferrero also performed well individually, finishing eighth with a score of 289 (+1) after rounds of 69, 68, 77, and 75.

Sotogrande, results

The team event was won by Ireland (Hugh Foley, Mathew McLean, Sean Keeling, Jack Hearn) with a total score of 868 (+4), edging out Switzerland, who finished second with 869 (+5).

Wales secured third place with 870 (+6), followed by Scotland in fourth with 871 (+7). Austria claimed sixth place with 875 (+11), while England and Spain tied for seventh with 880 (+16). In the individual competition, Welsh golfer James Ashfield emerged victorious with an impressive score of 283 (-5), followed by Scottish player Gregor Graham in second place with 285 (-3).

Dutch golfer Lars Van der Vight, English golfer Will Hopkins, and Irish golfer Jack Hearn tied for third place with scores of 286 (-2), while Swiss golfer Tom Mao and Belgian golfer Jarno Tollenaire tied for sixth with scores of 288 (par).

Luca Memeo and Marco Florioli finished tied for 13th place with scores of 293 (+5), while Lucas Nicolas Fallotico finished 69th with a score of 312 (+24). Alberto Binaghi, the National Team Coach, and Alain Vergari, the Assistant National Team Coach, accompanied the Italian team.

Although Italy has not claimed victory in the team event, they have had success in the individual competition, with six victories overall. Alberto Croze achieved a hat-trick of victories in 1971, 1973, and 1973 when the event was known as the Sherry Cup.

Subsequent winners include Francesco Molinari (2004), Nino Bertasio (2010), and Guido Migliozzi (2014). Past winners of the individual competition include renowned golfers such as Padraig Harrington, Sergio Garcia (twice), and Rory McIlroy. All top players.
