Scottie Scheffler's arrest sparked a flurry of reactions on social media. The American found himself in a traffic jam just before the start of the PGA Championship and attempted to avoid it. Scottie was unaware of the tragic outcome involving an individual and was in a rush to make it to the first day of the tournament. However, the police trailed him as he violated the law, leading to the young golfer ending up in jail.

Nevertheless, shortly after, Scottie was released.

Golf Digest provided a full transcript of the conversation between Scheffler and the officer after the 27-year-old ended up in the backseat of a police car. Scheffler immediately began justifying his actions, emphasizing that the situation wasn't entirely clear to him.

"I had to loop all the way around that way, it took me about probably half an hour. So I was pulling in here, there was a police officer up there told me to come the opposite way to the traffic and then come in.

As I was pulling in, my window was down and the officer told me to stop. First of all, I did not know that he was a police officer, I thought he was one of the security guards that was mistaken. As I was pulling by him, he grabbed my arm..".- Scheffler said, as quoted by Golf Monthly.

The police officer immediately warned Scheffler and told him to stop, explaining to him why it was important whether it was a security guard or a policeman, it was necessary for him to stop.

Scheffler admitted that he should have stopped. He explained that he became a bit impatient because he was running late for his tee time. He recounted that as the officer reached into the car, he grabbed his shoulder and hit him.

The police officer said: "He wanted you to stop, right?" Scheffler confirmed, but also emphasized that the situation seemed too aggressive, so he decided to pull back a bit because he was afraid. He expected to be hit. Scheffler didn't know who he was dealing with since the officer didn't identify himself as a policeman. He had a yellow jacket and Scheffler didn't know what he was doing.

Scottie Scheffler: I was looking for an officer, I didn't know he was a police officer

The police officer clarified that the individual attempting to stop Scheffler was wearing a uniform, indicating authority. Despite this, Scheffler continued driving, inadvertently dragging the officer, who was on foot. This action was deemed unsafe and inappropriate. Additionally, the officer highlighted that Scheffler's refusal to exit the vehicle further escalated the situation.

"I was still not aware that he was a police officer, I was actually looking out the window of the car to actually find a police officer."- Schefler said.

The police officer said that every officer wears yellow vests and that he could see them, to which Scottie replied, laughingly;

"Believe me, sir, if I knew he was a police officer I would have been much less afraid, but the panic kind of set in. As you can see, I'm still shaking because I was afraid and I didn't know who he was. He didn't say 'police, get out of the car', he just hit me with his flashlight and yelled 'get out of the car.'"- he said.

Officer remarked that their attire, which included extensive police gear, should clearly indicate their status as police officers.

Scheffler responded by expressing that had he been aware the individual was a police officer, he would have complied by exiting the vehicle. He explained feeling panicked while attempting to reach the golf course and now feeling unsure of how to proceed.

The police officer returned to the initial point, believing that he could still see the person wearing a yellow vest and that if someone tells him to stop, then he must stop. If he had acted differently, the officer told him, such an incident would not have occurred.

"You actually hurt him, and he's a police officer. He's got a huge scrape on his knee. He's being checked by EMS, big bruise, so I don't know. But, for you right now, the main question is if you're going to jail, and it's up to him. I don't know."- police officer said.

Scottie Scheffler asked if he could talk to the police officer, to which his colleague told him he couldn't. After the conversation, the golfer was dragged to the police station but soon released. The 27-year-old successfully made it to the first day but failed to impress. Scheffler was the main favorite of the tournament. However, the incident before the start spoiled the plans for the American.
