Light-years ahead of other nations, American golf possesses an inexhaustible reservoir of talent capable of blossoming and breaking through to the highest level at any moment. The latest example in the spotlight this week is at the Memorial Tournament on the PGA Tour.

His name: Jackson Koivun.

His name may not ring a bell for you just yet, but Jackson Koivun could very well become one of the very best players in the world in the coming years. His early talent is exploding onto the world stage, whether it's on his college circuit or this week on the PGA Tour; the 19-year-old American is making a resounding statement for the future of golf.

He has become the first golfer in NCAA history (American college tour) to win all three awards honoring the best college player of the year and the title of Freshman of the Year, awarded to the best first-year player, all in a single season.

He also led Auburn to its first national championship. Added to this impressive resume, he has just made the cut in his debut on the PGA Tour. Koivun made two birdies in his last five holes to finish at +4 and qualify for the Memorial Tournament weekend.

By making the cut, Koivun has earned his 15th point in the PGA Tour University Accelerated program. He now has five points left to reach the 20-point threshold and become a member of the PGA Tour. He would thus join Gordon Sargent as the only golfer to have already achieved this feat and the status that comes with it.

The rules of golf are relatively complicated compared to other sports because they apply outdoors, close to nature and animals. Respect for the rules is a fundamental element in the game of golf, which, based almost always on self-control and the players' free conscience, often sees results falsified, sometimes consciously, but often unconsciously or through carelessness, due to the non-observance of many players of the rules of the game.

In addition to the rules, golf adheres to a code of conduct, known as etiquette, which generally means playing the game with due respect for the golf course and other players. Etiquette is an indispensable component of this sport.
