Another Italian presence in golf is added to the Paris 2024 Olympics. Thanks to Alessandra Fanali, who reaches Le Golf National in Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines (and more precisely Guyancourt), already home to the 2018 Ryder Cup.

she is number 1 in Italy and, at the latest update of the Rolex Rankings (sponsored name of the women's world rankings), number 211 in the ranking. However, since Americans, Koreans, Asians and those from the British Isles tend to free up many places, given that 4 are granted to the top 15 positions and 2 to the rest, Fanali's entry is very quiet.

Born in 1999, raised at the Fiuggi Golf Club, but a member of the Marco Simone Golf & Country Club which in 2023 had the Ryder Cup on its greens, she now boasts good experience on the Ladies European Tour.

In particular, she is a member , of a group of golfers who, in 2016, won the European Girls Team Championship and who, at the time, were very promising: Caterina Don, Alessia Nobilio, Emilie Alba Paltrinieri. At the moment the one who has come furthest, by virtue of the different sporting and human trajectories of all of them, is she, who has lived in the United States at Arizona State.

Returning to Europe in 2022, she came second that same year at the Italian Open and in 2024 at the Kenya Open. This year it has been very constant: it only missed two cuts, one of which was in the last outing in Czechia. She boasts six top ten finishes on the continental circuit.

There was a wait to understand the possibilities of a second Italian pass, to be attributed to Virginia Elena Carta. Her 18th place on Czech soil, although bringing her up to world number 338, keeps her very slightly behind the last entrant, the Austrian Sarah Schober, eight places ahead.

However, there is still time for a window to be opened between reallocations and particular rules of some Olympic committees. In short, the last word has not been said: in many cases it should be one step, or at most two, from entry as it is in the very first places among the Olympic reserves in case of withdrawals.
