Witthoeft played the first WTA qualifying event at Stuttgart in 2010 and the first WTA main draw in Bastad in 2012. She made her Top 100 debut in October 2014 (at No.100). The German played all four majors in one season for the first time in 2015. That season, she achieved a significant ranking improvement. Ranked No.104 in first event of the season at Shenzhen qualifying, she set a career‐high of No.49 on August 17, breaking into the Top 50 for the first time after Wimbledon. In 2015, in fact, she reached the first two WTA quarterfinals of her career in 2015, in Kuala Lumpur (l. Wozniacki) and Nürnberg (l. Arruabarrena).

2016 highlights included the third on the clay of Gstaad (l. eventual champion Golubic), after the third round run at Wimbledon (l. eventual runner‐up Kerber). On ITF Circuit, finished R‐Up at $100k ITF/Cagnes‐Sur‐Mer‐FRA and $75k ITF/Prague‐CZE (l. Lottner in F).

In 2017, her breakthrough season, she started claiming a career first semifinal in Budapest in February (l. eventual R‐Up Safarova). She then made a third round showing at Roland Garros (l. Ka.Pliskova) where she defeated No.26 Davis in the first round, earning the maiden Top 30 win of the year. In the last tournament of the season, in Luxembourg, where she had never advanced past the first round, she battled past Puig to collect her maiden WTA title.
