Born Tatjana Malek, she married husband and coach Charles Edouard Maria in 2013. She played first events of career on ITF Circuit in 2001 and made WTA main draw debut in 2006. From that year to 2011, Maria played 13 matches for Germany in Fed Cup.
She made her Top 100 debut on May 14 2007 (after Berlin; rose from No.108 to No.92). In 2009 she reached the first WTA quarter-final in Barcelona. She played five further QF at 2010 Pattaya City, 2010 Marbella, 2014 Québec City, 2017 Rabat and 2017 Bucharest before reaching her maiden semifinal in Quebec City.
In 2009, she finished at No.60, as she would do in 2015. In 2010, in Kuala Lumpur, she beat No.10 Li to clinch her first Top 10 win of her career. In 2013, she took a break from tennis as her first child, a daughter named Charlotte, was born on 20 December, and came back in Bogotà in April 2014.
In 2016 she posted only four tour-level wins in 2016; three came on clay, during 2r appearances at Bogotá (l. Goncalves), Rabat (l. Putintseva) and Roland Garros (l. Cornet).
She also advanced to back-to-back doubles finals at Bogotá and Rabat (w/Arruabarrena), and in Colombia celebrated the second WTA doubles title (also 2012 Québec City w/Mladenovic).
