Zarina Diyas started playing tennis at age six and lived in Czech Republic from ages five to 12. She made her professional debut at $100k ITF in Bratislava in 2007. On ITF Circuit she has won seven singles titles.
Her breakthrough season came in 2014, when she finished as runner-up in Osaka (l. Stosur) in her first WTA final. She began the year with a third-round run at Australian Open (as qualifier, l. Halep). She clinched that stage at Us Open (l.Makarova) and moved to the round 16 at Wimbledon in her best results across the majors (on debut, d. No.15 Suárez Navarro en route, l. Halep). She also participated in 2014 Rising Stars Invitational at WTA Finals in Singapore.
Diyas started the 2015 season strongly with back-to-back quarterfinal appearances at Shenzhen (l. Zheng) and Hobart (l. Riske). Other highlights in first half of 2015 included reaching the third-round at Indian Wells (l. S.Williams). She post the second consecutive Wimbledon round 16 run (d. No.14 Petkovic, l. Sharapova), but she won just one match for remainder of season, at the WTA International-level tournament in Tokyo in September. She consequently scored her best year-end finish in 2014, at No.34.
Before being sidelined by wrist injury, 2016 highlight was reaching the third-round in Miami (l. S.Williams). This was the first time she won back-to-back matches since 2015 Wimbledon. She also made second-round exits at 2016 Indian Wells (l. eventual champion Azarenka), Shenzhen (l. Siniakova), Kaohsiung (l. Kulichkova), Kuala Lumpur (l. Zhu), Strasbourg (l. Kudryavtseva) and Roland Garros (l. Halep).
Following her first-round loss at 2016 Wimbledon, she underwent wrist surgery, sidelining her until February 2017, and spent much of last season playing ITF events. In 2017, she finished the season at No.66, up from No.148 in 2016. That year, she won her first WTA title of career at Tokyo [Japan Open] (as qualifier, d. Kato – title run took in eight matches).
In 2018, Diyas reached the quarter-finals in Shenzhen (l.Sharapova) and Strasbourg (l. to eventual champion Pavlyuchenkova). She represented Kazakhstan in Fed Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group I in February, compiling 3-1 singles record. Only singles defeat came against Nara as Kazakhstan narrowly missed out on a place in the World Group II play-offs after losing 2-1 to Japan in the promotion play-off.
