Veronika Kudermetova was born in Kazan on April 24, 1997. In her career she has won a WTA 500 title, namely the Volvo Car Open 2021 in singles, while boasting two trophies, including the Premier 5 Wuhan Open 2019, won in doubles.

On October 24, 2022, she reached her best ranking in singles, at number 9. In doubles, however, she almost reached the top of the rankings with 2nd place on June 6, 2022.


Between 2014 and 2018 she mainly played tournaments on the ITF Women's World Tennis Tour. In these years she won four singles and sixteen doubles tournaments, topped off by another four and eleven finals respectively. Also in 2014, not yet seventeen, she made her Fed Cup debut, opposing Samantha Stosur, from whom she lost in straight sets.

She played her first tournament on the WTA Tour in Taipei in November 2016 and in the following edition of the same Asian tournament she reached her first quarterfinals. In April 2018 she managed to qualify for the WTA in Stuttgart by eliminating the number 59 of the ranking Hsieh Su-wei and the number 74 Varvara Lepchenko, in the first round of the main draw she defeated the number 25 Carla Suárez Navarro in straight sets before being defeated by Karolina Pliskova.

On 11 January 2019 she accessed the singles main draw of a Grand Slam tournament for the first time, defeating Tereza Martincová in the last round of the Australian Open qualifiers, but she was immediately eliminated by the American Sophie Kenin with a score of 6- 3 3-6 7-5.

The following May 27, in the first round of the Roland Garros, she simultaneously achieved her first victory in a slam and against a Top 20 by beating former number one in the ranking Caroline Wozniacki over Philippe Chatrier, 0-6, 6-3, 6-3.

Veronika takes part in the Volvo Car Open Charleston 2021, where she kicks off the gravel season: from the 15th seed, the Russian debuts with a comfortable win over Desirae Krawczyk (6-1 6-2); in the second round, she scores a double 6-4 against the local wild-card Navarro while in the round of 16 she clearly beats Kurumi Nara (6-0 6-3).

In the quarterfinals, she eliminated the 2016 champion Sloane Stephens 6-3 6-4 and, in the semifinals, she ousted the Spanish Badosa with a double 6-3. Kudermetova thus reaches the second WTA final of 2021: unlike what happened to her in January, this time the Russian wins the final against Danka Kovinic (6-4 6-2) and takes home the first career title on the circuit greater. In doubles she reaches and loses the final at Indian Wells and Wimbledon.

2022, is a very good year for her in singles, as she reaches finals in Melbourne, Dubai and Istanbul, reaches the slam quarterfinals and top-10 for the first time. She wins the WTA Finals in doubles.

Private life

Kudermetova is married to tennis coach and former player Sergei Demekhine. They started dating in 2015 though Demekhine has been her coach again since 2012.

Kudermetova commented in 2020: "At the age of 16 I liked him but I didn't even think about anything more. It's probably my upbringing that affected us. Such thoughts had been unacceptable to me."

Her younger sister Polina Kudermetova (b. 2003) is also a tennis player.

Veronika Kudermetova's net worth is worth $5 million in 2023. Kudermetova was endorsed by Nike as a junior. After wearing Nike and Asics clothes without any personal contract with the brands, Kudermetova was sponsored by Armani for clothing in 2020, becoming EA7 Brand Ambassador.
