The ATP Monte Carlo Rolex Masters is on its way to reopening to the crowd. After the skipped edition in 2020 and the one played behind closed doors, won by Stefanos Tsitsipas, the Country Club is ready to embrace the fans in 2022 in the splendid Monegasque setting.
Scientific developments in contrast to the COVID-19 pandemic are progressing and everything is slowly recovering its traditional status, including the stadiums that host tennis matches (albeit still with limitations in some countries).
"I am an optimist," declared the director of the tournament Zeljko Franulovic, winner in 1970. "It has been two complicated years for everyone, but I repeated it to my staff: better injured than dead. Now I think we can finally leave the pandemic behind us as a bad memory, and go back to the tennis we were used to before."
ATP Monte Carlo: dates and prices
Big numbers are expected for the 2022 edition of the Masters 1000 in Monte Carlo, scheduled from 9 to 17 April. The presale is proceeding at full speed - "We are at pre-pandemic levels” revealed Franulovic.
So much so that it can reach over 100 thousand presences according to forecasts. All of this, of course, except for program changes forced by Covid: "We have a plan B, even a plan C if for that matter. In the worst case, we will reimburse those who cannot attend, but we expect the turnout to be free.
The fact that France (whose health guidelines also affect the tournament) has extended the duration of the certification gives us hope." As for prices, tickets for the qualifiers on April 9 will range from € 30 to € 40 and then fluctuate between € 39 and € 70 the next day.
For the finals they range from 75 to 180 while a subscription for the whole tournament will start from 415 euros (more info here). These are the figures relating to the prestigious tournament of the Principality of Monaco which traditionally, and therefore also for 2022, is made up of a not insignificant slice of Italians: "The crowd in Monte Carlo is 30 or even 40 percent Italian - underlines Franulovic - with the victory of Fognini in 2019 the percentage has risen further." The entry-list of the tournament will be announced only in March.
