The Marseille organizers show Jo-Wilfried Tsonga respect by giving him a wildcard

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Lucas Pouille and Gilles Simon have all been awarded wildcards into Marseille, per Michal Samulski.

Tsonga, 36, is set to make his 11th main draw appearance in Marseille.

Tsonga has had success in Marseille throughout his career, winning the tournament three times. Also, Tsonga finished runner-up at the Marseille event in 2014. Pouille, a former world No. 10, is set for a sixth Marseille appearance.

Pouille made back-to-back Marseille finals in 2017 and 2018 but on both occasions failed to win the title. Simon, 37, is set to make his 15th appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Marseille. Simon has also enjoyed success in Marseille as he made it all the way at the tournament in 2007 and 2015.

Tsonga will be hoping to do well in Marseille

Tsonga clinched his first ATP win since 2021 March after he beat Kacper Zuk in the Montpellier first round two weeks ago. After beating Zuk, Tsonga revealed his goal is to progress in his game little by little.

"I won't hide from you that it is not simple. You have to accept to push back the limit, to accept the pain again. The objective is above all to see how long I will last. It is not a great glory to pass the 1st round," Tsonga said.

"For the weeks that I have left as a player, the objective is to progress little by little. It's going in the right direction so far." Tsonga appeared in Rotterdam this week after being awarded a wildcard. Tsonga didn't make a deep run but he competed well against Hubert Hurkacz.

Hurkacz, ranked at No. 11, beat Tsonga 6-4 7-6 (7) in the Rotterdam first round. After the match, Hurkacz praised Tsonga's level and said the Frenchman's game is trending in the right direction. Tsonga is past his prime but he is not ready to quit as he wants to make the one final push in his career. It remains to be seen how far can Tsonga go in Marseille.
