Mardy Fish shares advice to Taylor Fritz

United States Davis Cup team captain Mardy Fish has shared his advice to Taylor Fritz as he has urged the 24-year-old to keep working hard and to never get complacent. Fritz, 24, is enjoying some of the best days of his career as he is hoping to make some strong results this season.

Fritz made a breakthrough at the Grand Slam level this past Australian Open as for the first time in his career he made the second week of a Grand Slam. Last month, Fritz rose to a career-high ranking of No. 16 in the world.

“Never be satisfied. Understand how far you've come, understand the work that you've put in. Embrace that, but never be satisfied with your ranking or getting into the Top 20 or anything like that,” Fish said.

Fish sees the hunger in Fritz

Fritz, now ranked at No. 20 in the world, wants to win big titles and enter the top-10. Fritz fell just short of winning his first Masters title in Indian Wells last year as he ended runner-up in the final to Nikoloz Basilashvili.

“My captain when I had my best years, Jim Courier, I'll never forget,” Fish recently told USTA.com. “He sent me a text the first time I made the Top 10 and mentioned something about that — embrace it and appreciate it, but don't be satisfied.

And so it seems like Taylor has the right attitude in that regard”. Fish thinks one of the keys to Fritz's success is consistency. If Fritz can win matches he is supposed to beat, he can be a regular top-20 player and win on the ATP 250 level.

“You can really build an incredible career in beating players you’re supposed to be every time, and he's starting to do that, which is why we're seeing the successes he's had," Fish added.
