Frances Tiafoe reacts to saving three MPs in stunning win over Sebastian Korda

World No. 28 Frances Tiafoe credited the Estoril crowd for helping him stay in the match after a stunning comeback victory over Sebastian Korda. Tiafoe, seeded at No. 5, had his back turned against the wall but recovered to beat Korda 4-6 7-6 (2) 6-4.

Korda was up by a set and a break - had three match points in the second set - but Tiafoe saved them all won in three sets to reach his second Estoril final. “I knew it was going to be really tough, Sebastian has been killing everybody this week,” Tiafoe said after the match, per the ATP Tour website.

“I knew he was going to be fresh and have a lot of legs. I came out pretty good, but I went on a bad streak serving. This crowd definitely kept me in it, for sure”.

How Tiafoe pulled off a stunning comeback win versus Korda

it was Tiafoe who made the better start to the match as he led 4-2 after the opening four games of the match.

Tiafoe appeared to be cruising toward winning the first set but then Korda claimed back-to-back breaks to win four games in a row and steal the first set. Korda continued his run at the start of the second set as he took an early 3-0 lead.

Tiafoe served out the fourth game to finally end Korda's run of seven consecutive games. Korda had a comfortable 6-4 5-2 lead and appeared to be heading toward a comfortable straight-set win but then Tiafoe saved a match point on his serve in the eighth game to reduce the deficit to 5-3.

Tiafoe then broke back Korda in the ninth game, before saving two match points in the 10th game to level the set to five games apiece. After saving three match points, Tiafoe broke Korda in the 11th game but failed to serve out for the set in the following set as the second set went into a tie-break.

Tiafoe took an early 4-0 lead in the tie-break and absolutely dominated it as he realized his first set point to force a decider. Tiafoe blew an early third set break but he broke Korda again in the 10th game when Korda was serving to stay in the match. Tiafoe plays Sebastian Baez in the Estoril final.
