Sebastian Korda reveals what he would like to achieve in 2022

USA's Sebastian Korda is enjoying a career-high ranking of No. 30 and now he aims to reach the top-20 before the season ends. Korda, 21, reached the top-30 for the first time in his career this Monday. Korda is one of the most promising and talented players on the ATP Tour and the general belief is that the American definitely has the potential to be a top-10 player one day and maybe contend for Grand Slam and Masters title.

"Yeah for sure the ranking is always very important but you know, if I am having fun and working hard then the ranking will follow which it has done so far and so I am very happy," Korda told Tennis TV, as quoted on “I would love to be in the top 20 but there is a long way to go and a lot of tennis to be played”.

Korda beaten in Madrid

Korda made a fine start to his Madrid campaign, beating fellow compatriot Reilly Opelka in straight sets. Unfortunately for Korda, he failed to deliver a similar performance in the second round as he was ousted by Lorenzo Musetti.

Musetti, ranked at No. 63 in the world, saw off Korda 6-4 6-3 in the Madrid second round. Musetti got off to a fast start, breaking Korda in the opening game of the match. After saving a break point in the second and sixth game, Musetti earned his second break to take a comfortable 5-2 lead in the first set.

Musetti failed to serve out for the first set in the eighth game but made no mistake when serving for the first set for the second time in the 10th game. After winning the first set, Musetti started the second set with a break.

Korda broke back Musetti in the sixth game to level the set to three games apiece but the Italian responded with breaks in the seventh and ninth game to complete a straight-set win. Next up on Korda's schedule is the Rome Masters, where he is set to make his debut. It remains to be seen if Korda can bounce back in Rome after an early Madrid exit.
