Former world number 14 Kyle Edmund is ready to make his long-awaited singles return as he is set to try to earn a Winnipeg Challenger main draw spot through the qualifying event. The Winniper Challenger officially kicks off on Monday, while the qualifying event will take place during the weekend.

. After Winnipeg, Edmund is expected to play his first ATP tournament of the year at the Citi Open in Washington. On Wednesday, the US Open released their entry list and it was revealed that Edmund entered the tournament using a protected ranking.

Edmund hasn't played since 2020 October as it took him nearly two full years to recover from three knee surgeries. “It’s not an injury that heals by itself, and there is no straightforward procedure to have.

It’s just something that’s now part of my life. I have just accepted that. I will constantly be dealing with it. It’s not like now that I’ve had three ops it’s all fixed. But I’m happy where I’m at and I can enjoy playing now and just wake up and be a tennis player rather than a professional rehabber, which was what I was feeling for a long time," Edmund said.

Edmund confident he can have a successful comeback

Edmund, 27, enjoyed his best year in 2018, when he reached the Australian Open semifinal and rose to a career-high ranking of number 14 in the world. Edmund is now the 497th-ranked player in the world and coming off of three knee surgeries but he is refusing to be negative about his situation.

“It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself so, when you do have bad days, you nip it in the bud and you address it. It’s not the end of the world. I’m confident that I’ll get back. I still have years ahead of me and time to play," Edmund added.

Edmund competed at this year's Wimbledon but he only played one mixed doubles match. Edmund and partner Olivia Nicholls suffered a first round loss in the Wimbledon mixed doubles event but the most important thing for Edmund was that he felt well during and after the match.
