Hollywood's Ben Stiller praises Andy Murray for Ukraine contributions

Emmy Award winning actor Ben Stiller praised three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray for shining a light on what is happening in Ukraine. In late February, the Russian invasion of Ukraine started. Murray was one of the first players to speak out against Russia's actions in Ukraine and in March announced his decision to donate all of his prize money for the rest of the season to UNICEF Ukraine aid.

"So much respect for ⁦Andy Murray shining a light on the millions of people - and children - still affected by this senseless war in Ukraine," Stiller tweeted.

Murray urges the media to keep shining a light on the Ukraine situation

Russia launched their full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 24 as more than five months have passed since the start of the Russian invasion.

The Ukraine situation is not getting as much attention as it did when Russia initially launched their invasion and Murray is not happy about it. “Yeah, I hope so. That's one of the things that I think UNICEF have been talking to my team about.

It's very difficult. It’s not the main story on the news every day like it was back then,” Murray said, per Ben Rothenberg. “You can’t just forget about this. It’s still going on. People are still getting killed, children are still having to flee their homes, and are in really, really tragic situations.

I think it’s important that the media continues to shine a light on it, keep talking about it. Hopefully like what the tournament is doing here can help a little bit with that." Meanwhile, Murray is set to kick off his campaign at the Citi Open in Washington.

In the Washington first round, Murray plays Mikael Ymer. Murray and Sweden's Ymer have no previous meetings and they will be going head-to-head for the first time when they meet in Washington.
