Carlos Alcaraz comments on his growing rivalry with Jannik Sinner

World No. 4 Carlos Alcaraz feels he and Jannik Sinner could definitely make the next great rivalry as he expects to have many more great battles versus the 20-year-old Italian. Alcaraz, 19, clashed Sinner in last week's Umag final.

Alcaraz was the slight favorite but it was Sinner who ended on the winning side after claiming a 6-7 (5) 6-1 6-1 victory. It was the third meeting between the two on the main level as Sinner now leads their head-to-head 2-1.

Sinner also beat Alcaraz in four sets when they met in the Wimbledon last-16 this year. “Hope so. We will have more matches ahead in big stadiums, fighting for big tournaments. Both of us are still young and we will have a great future ahead, or hope so, but I would say we will play more battles in the future," Alcaraz said of his rivalry with SInner, per Sportskeeda.

Alcaraz missed out on a chance go up by a set and a break

After winning a tight first set, Alcaraz served out the opening game of the second set and then had six break points in the second game. Alcaraz missed out on all of those six break points and that was the beginning of Sinner's stunning comeback.

“That was a crucial point [of the match],” Sinner said of the second game of the second set. “I knew I had to stay there. He made some unforced errors, and I was very happy that I won this game. Then I returned well and raised my level a little bit, and I think I found a solution then”.

Meawhile, Alcaraz now turns his focus onto the North American hard court swing. "It was not the result we wanted, but good week in Umag! congratulations @janniksin for the title and for the tournament! It's time to think about US Open," Alcaraz wrote on Instagram.
