Laura Robson weighs in on Nick Kyrgios' US Open chances

Laura Robson feels Nick Kyrgios can make a deep US Open run as he is is not lacking any confidence at the moment. Kyrgios, 27, made his first Grand Slam final at this past Wimbledon. After a big Wimbledon result, Kyrgios won Washington and also beat world No.

1 Daniil Medvedev in Montreal. “I’m glad that he has backed it up,” Robson told Tennis365. “Being in the final (at Wimbledon) has given him a push in the right direction. He finally has realised that this is where he should be with his talent and it seems like the fast courts in the United States are perfect for him.

He just brings such a different dynamic to the game. Get people involved and passionate, whether they like him or not. He’s not had the expectation on his shoulders for ages, so it’s going to be a different dynamic for him to be one of the favourites.

He is playing with so much confidence at the moment and I hope it continues”.

Kyrgios preparing for the US Open

Kyrgios has played lots of tennis since the grass season and he looked a bit worn out physically and mentally last week.

After beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the Cincinnati first round, Kyrgios suffered a 6-3 6-2 loss to Taylor Fritz in his next match. Kyrgios didn't look well during that match and it was clear that he was physically tired and probably mentally exhausted.

Two weeks ago in Montreal, Kyrgios said that it was hard for him to be away from his mom, who's in hospital and not doing very well with her health. After the US Open, Kyrgios plans to return home and spend some time around his family.

Since Kyrgios lost early in Cincinnati, he has had a few extra days to rest ahead of the US Open. It remains to be seen if Kyrgios can make back-to-back Grand Slam finals.
