World No. 1 Daniil Medvedev, 2021 US Open semifinalist Felix Auger-Aliassime and American tennis star Frances Tiafoe sent a warm retirement message to Serena Williams. Auger-Aliassime, who is now considered as one of the brightest talents on the ATP Tour, thanked Williams for inspiring him to pursue a tennis career and believe that it's possible to be successful.
"Serena, thank you for everything you did for tennis, thank you for inspiring me and many others to chase their dreams, to dream big and to work hard and try to achieve the best in their career. You still inspire me today, wish you the best, for you and your family in the future," Auger-Aliassime said in a video for the ATP Tour.
Medvedev to Williams: You are amazing and I wish you all the best
"Hi Serena, I wish you a happy retirement if we can say like this. Since I know tennis, you were there, and you are an amazing champion. I wish you all the best and, yea, you're just amazing, continue being this way," Medvedev said in his message to Williams.
Frances Tiafoe, who is now one of the best Black athletes in the game, thanked Williams for inspiring him to play tennis and for showing him that it is possible to succeed with the right work ethic. Over the last few years, Tiafoe several times spoke about how Williams paved the way for Black athletes like him to succeed in tennis.
'Thank you for, you know, taking me under your wing," Tiafoe said. "Me being able to call you a friend is unbelievable. You know, I've watched you play and see what you've done for so many years, you winning slams when I was one year old and you know, what you did will live forever." Williams is going down as one of the greatest and most influential athletes in sports history.
