In his first Halle final, Medvedev suffered a surprise defeat to Hubert Hurkacz.
Could Kyrgios and Medvedev meet in Halle next year?
Kyrgios and Medvedev have played three times this season. Medvedev won their first meeting of the year at the Australian Open, while Kyrgios claimed victories at the Montreal Masters and US Open.
Most recently, Kyrgios handed Medvedev a 7-6 (11) 3-6 6-3 6-2 defeat in the US Open round-of-16. "I just thought I played the right way. I returned unbelievable today. Just thought the third and fourth sets were just so free," Kyrgios said after the match.
"I was just having a lot of fun, embracing every moment out on Ashe today. Really proud of that." After losing to Kyrgios for the second time during the North American hard court swing, Medvedev dropped a big praise on Kyrgios' level.
"It was a high-level match," Medvedev said. "(Kyrgios) played (like) Novak, Rafa. They all play amazing. Nick today played kind of their level, in my opinion. He has a little bit different game because he's not like a grinder in a way.
At the same time he can rally. He's tough to play. He has an amazing serve. But from baseline it's not like when the point starts, you know that you have the advantage. He plays good. He has every shot." Grass is the surface which suits Kyrgios better and it would be interesting to see a Kyrgios and Medvedev match in Halle.
