Stefanos Tsitsipas accepts wildcard into ATP 250 indoor tournament

World No. 5 Stefanos Tsitsipas has accepted a main draw wildcard into the Stockholm Open, per Michal Samulski. Tsitsipas, 24, will be making his second appearance on the indoor-hard courts of Stockholm.

In 2018, Tsitsipas made his debut at the Stockholm Open. Tsitsipas enjoyed a very memorable debut in Stockholm, having won the tournament in his first appearance.

Since then, Tsitsipas hasn't had any appearances at the tournament, but he is set to return to the Swedish capital this fall. This year's Stockholm Open is scheduled to take place next week.

Tsitsipas ended runner-up at the Astana Open

Last week, Tsitsipas debuted at the Astana Open.

In the Kazakh capital city, Tsitsipas made the final before suffering a 6-3 6-4 defeat to Novak Djokovic. After falling just a win short from winning the Astana Open, Tsitsipas showed his class. "You are an extremely professional person, on and off the court, I will not be here to repeat all the beautiful things I always say about you and that we all know," Tsitsipas told Djokovic during his runner-up speech.

Also, Tsitsipas had only words of praise for the Kazakh capital city, which was renamed from Astana to Nur-Sultan in 2019. "Astana is such an incredible place! I highly encourage people to come visit Kazakhstan. To truly immerse themselves and get exposed to its beautiful culture, food and people.

This week will remain unforgettable, not so much for the tennis, but mostly for the extraordinary experiences I got to be a participant of. The marvellous hospitality and warmth of the Kazakh people will stay with me for a long time.

Got to say, really impressed! Beautiful, generous and kind people everywhere. The Kazakh capital is best described as futuristic and ambitious. I can see this being one of the main cities of the future. It has an unbelievably great potential," Tsitsipas wrote on Instagram.

After making the Astana Open final, Tsitsipas will certainly be determined to make a deep run in Stockholm as well.
