Carlos Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero named ATP Coach of the Year

Carlos Alcaraz's coach Juan Carlos Ferrero has been named the 2022 ATP Coach of the Year. Ferrero, who has been working with Alcaraz since 2018, guided Alcaraz to a Grand Slam title and the world No 1 ranking in 2022. After winning his first Grand Slam at the Us Open, 19-year-old Alcaraz became the youngest No 1 in tennis history.

Later, Alcaraz also became the youngest Year-End No 1 in tennis history. "This year has been an amazing year. Gladly, all the hard work has been rewarded with results and now with this amazing prize. I’m extremely happy to win the ATP Coach of the Year award.

Thank you all of you for the support," Ferrero told the ATP Tour website.

Going into the 2023 season, Alcaraz admits he is well-aware that he now has a target on his back and that every player will be extremely motivated to beat him.

“I’ve had time to realise what I did, to look back on this amazing year and I still can’t believe it. A lot of things to enjoy from this year and now I need to try to do the same or better next season. Next season is going to be different for me.

I’m not going to be one of the guys who is climbing up, I’m there, so this season will be a different mentality. I have to be prepared to stay strong the whole year because I’ll be going to lots of tournaments as the favourite.

Everyone wants to beat me so I have to be prepared for that," Alcaraz told The National. Before winning the US Open, Alcaraz won Masters titles in Miami and Madrid. Overall, Alcaraz captured five titles in 2022. It remains to be seen how many titles can Alcaraz win in 2023.
