Jordan Thompson on upset win over Stefanos Tsitsipas: I enjoyed the batlte

Jordan Thompson started laughing when Stefanos Tsitsipas tried to draw the crowd into their match because the Australian enjoyed the fact that he was able to go toe-to-toe against a top player like Greek. Thompson, ranked at No 87 in the world, upset second-seeded Tsitsipas 7-6 (0) 4-6 7-6 (5).

Tsitsipas entered the match as the favorite but there wasn't much separating the Greek and Thompson on the court. “I actually started laughing when he was doing that. Not that it was funny that he was doing it. It's more the fact that, you know, we probably want to be in those situations.

I want to be in these positions. I'm enjoying the battle. It's probably better to be that way than not," Thompson explained, per

Thompson beat Tsitsipas for his second top-10 win

In 2017, Thompson earned his first top-10 win when he upset Andy Murray at the Queen's Club.

Six years later, Thompson defeated world No 3 Tsitsipas for his second win against a top-10 player. Afterward, Thompson was asked to compare the Murray win with the Tsitsipas win. “Today was a little bit different. You know, I have been on a bit of a run of matches.

I felt confident, even playing against a Top 10 player I felt comfortable in my own skin and what I was doing, and just snuck out a win," Thompson said. Thompson, who has never been ranked higher than No 43, says it is in his blood to go out and leave it all.

“I think every Aussie wants to do Australia proud. We can go nuts sometimes. Can assure you always generally the majority of the time we're trying our balls off to win. I know when I go out there I give 100 percent every time.

I know I can complain and get a little bit angry but it never stops me from competing my hardest. It's all I want to do. I think generally that's an Australian quality," Thompson said.
