Stan Wawrinka warns Holger Rune: You will regret reputation that you are building

Stan Wawrinka is warning Holger Rune that he is "building a reputation in the locker room that he will regret one day." In late 2022, Wawrinka was caught telling Rune at the net to "stop acting like a baby" following their Paris Masters clash.

This Monday, Wawrinka edged out Rune 6-2 6-7 (5) 7-5 in the Indian Wells third round. At the net, Rune stopped Wawrinka to ask him if he had anything to say now. "The only thing I can add is that he is a young player, a very great champion already with huge potential.

But he is making a reputation in the locker room that he will regret one day," Wawrinka said, per Quentin Moynet of L'Equipe.

At the net, a smiling Rune asked Wawrinka: “You’ve got nothing to say now?” Wawrinka seemed to be a bit confused and responded with a "huh?" Rune then repeated his question: “You’ve got nothing to say now?” Wawrinka responded by asking Rune back: “What do you want me to say?” After easily winning the first set, Wawrinka had a chance to serve out for the match in the second set but he missed out on a match point and Rune forced a decider.

Luckily for Wawrinka, he was able to keep his focus and still beat Rune in three sets. After losing to Rune in Paris, Wawrinka got his revenge in Indian Wells. "I feel good. The last 45 minutes was tough. I had the match in control, was playing well.

I was putting a lot of pressure, I should have won the match way before. I started feeling nervous and hesitated a little bit. He came back in the match," Wawrinka said after edging out Rune in three sets. In Indian Wells, 37-year-old Wawrinka said he believes he can win at least one more title before he retires.
