Fabio Fognini on his injury: "I've taken off my crutches"

Fabio Fognini had to decline the invitation offered to him by the organizers of the Monte-Carlo Masters 1000 due to the foot injury suffered during the derby with Marco Cecchianto at the ATP 250 tournament in Estoril. The Italian tennis player, after some medical tests, did not hide all his disappointment.

Monte-Carlo has always been a special tournament for Fognini; tournaments in which he achieved the most important success of his career in 2019. "I have to communicate with great regret that I will not be able to participate in the Monte-Carlo tournament.

Unfortunately the foot injury suffered in Estoril does not allow me to play. I'll find out the extent of it in the next few days. I'm really destroyed. You know how much I love the Monte-Carlo tournament. I thank the organizers for the invitation and I hope to be back on the pitch soon," wrote Fognini on his Instagram account.

Fognini, forced to use crutches, was framed several times by the cameras during the match between Novak Djokovic and Lorenzo Musetti: the Italian supported his compatriot with great passion. The good news, communicated by Fognini himself on social networks, is that he won't have to resort to crutches.

The Italian tennis player explained: "Hi guys, the good news is that I have taken off my crutches. The negative is that I'm not 100% yet and I don't know exactly when I'll be able to get back on the court.

Next Friday I have another visit and I will know more. See you soon." It is not yet clear when Fognini will compete again; the hope is to see him on the pitch in the final part of the season on clay. Only the further instrumental tests will be able to provide the Ligurian with the information necessary to plan the return.

Fognini was supposed to participate next week in the ATP 250 tournament in Banja Luka. Considering his absence, only an Italian will have the opportunity to play Banja Luka. It is Francesco Maestrelli, who will challenge Elias Ymer in the decisive qualifying round.
