Former world No 26 Filip Krajinovic admitted to Serbian media that he is "unhappy and lost on the court" and hinted that he will soon be announcing his retirement from tennis. Krajinovic, 31, suffered a 6-3 6-4 6-2 loss to Frances Tiafoe in the French Open first round.
With that loss, Krajinovic's record on the main level in 2023 was pushed to 3-12. Krajinovic, who is now ranked at No 93 in the world, will exit the top-100 after the French Open. "I mean, I got hit in the throat right at the beginning.
It bothered me a little, but that's not why I lost. It's a bad streak of my career that seems never-ending and simply - I'm having a hard time with all of this. All kinds of things are going through my head, thoughts... I will soon announce some news regarding my career, it may be unexpected, but soon everyone will find out what will happen," Krajinovic told Sport Klub.
Krajinovic: I'm very unhappy
Since reaching the Pune quarterfinal in his first tournament of the 2023 season, Krajinovic has had just one main draw win on the main level. "To continue, I need even more work, motivation, a team of people, everything.
I've been lost in all this for a long time, I'm very unhappy on the court. I repeat, it's getting harder and harder to win. My game, which was aggressive, disappeared. It's not me anymore on the court and everything is starting to bother me a lot," Krajinovic added.
Krajinovic, who thought about taking a break from tennis, gave Serbian media a very strong hint that he plans to retire soon. "I was thinking about taking a break, however, age doesn't allow it. I am 31 years old. Any longer break would be more and more difficult to recover as I lose rank.
I would have to play weaker tournaments, and I don't see myself in that. I think that from this context you understood everything about what I will announce soon," Krajinovic concluded.
