Daniil Medvedev answers if he is concerned about reception in his Wimbledon return

Daniil Medvedev says he is not really concerned about how his reception at Wimbledon would look as the Russian insists that's something he just "cannot control." Last year, Wimbledon banned Russian and Belarusian players from competing at The Championships.

After a strong backlash from the leading tennis organizations, Wimbledon ended its player ban on Russian and Belarusian players in 2023. Also, Russian and Belarusian players will also be allowed to compete in all British grass-court tournaments scheduled to take place leading up to Wimbledon.

“We cannot control it, you know. If people gonna decide to be harsh, it is what it is. If they're gonna be kind, it's great also. So it's not for us to decide. I will be happy if I'm able to come to UK to play Wimbledon. I'm only planning to play Wimbledon," Medvedev said, per Express-Sport.

Wimbledon will be Medvedev's only grass tournament on British soil

Medvedev is scheduled to kick off his grass season in 's-Hertogenbosch before playing in Halle the week after. Halle and Queen's are taking place simultaneously as Medvedev decided to pick the German ATP 500 event ahead of the British ATP 500 event.

“I go to Halle, that's a tournament I love. That's a tournament I so far did manage to play really well last year, you know," Medvedev noted. Medvedev, 27, has never been known as a strong force on grass but last year he made some notable results during the grass season as the Russian finished as runner-up in 's-Hertogenbosch and Halle.

This year, Medvedev will try to do well at Wimbledon and the tournaments leading up to the third Grand Slam tournament of the year. “It's not easy to play on grass. I cannot, like I cannot even say I love it, but better than on clay.

Last year I managed to make pretty good results to final. So I'm gonna try to manage to do better this year in Wimbledon than the years before," Medvedev said.
