Felix Auger-Aliassime addresses rough 2023 season, plans to turn everything around

Felix Auger-Aliassime admits it has been a rough 2023 season so far but adds he is doing well mentally and working on returning to his best level. Auger-Aliassime, who won three consecutive titles late in the 2022 season, is just 13-11 in 2023 so far.

Auger-Aliassime has been struggling heavily with his form and consistency throughout the season but injuries and some other setbacks have also played a part in it. In the first three months of the season, Auger-Aliassime clinched some decent results, like a semifinal showing in Rotterdam and a quarterfinal appearance at the Indian Wells Masters, respectively.

But since April, Auger-Aliassime is just 1-5 on the main level. Most recently, Auger-Aliassime suffered a surprise first-round loss at Wimbledon to Michael Mmoh. Despite his not-so-great season, Auger-Aliassime is still ranked at No 12 and the top-ranked Canadian male tennis player.

Auger-Aliassime hopes to turn around his season soon

"It’s obvious that this hasn’t been the season that I would have hoped for so far. Luckily for me, it’s not over. In the end I’m OK mentally. I’m positive about it all.

I’ve had time to be home and train and try to get better with the knee and kind of look at, you know, where it’s coming from and also resolve that problem in order for the future. If I can bring that physicality back on the court, I know that the results will start coming a little by little or maybe even quicker because I know myself more and more through the years.

Mentally, of course, there’s ups and downs. We don’t feel as confident every week. But I feel stable mentally, I feel in a good place. I’m very focused and driven and I feel that I’m confident in my ability.

I know I’ll be ready mentally to play, you know, big matches and to play for important titles," Auger-Aliassime told Sportsnet.
