Alexander Zverev met with Carlos Alcaraz on a golf course and jokingly notified alerted other tennis players they "have a chance against him in golf." Alcaraz, 20, is off to a stunning start to his career as he is the top-ranked player in the world and has two Grand Slam and five Masters titles in his collection.
Zverev himself has had some brutal losses against Alcaraz as the Spaniard twice absolutely destroyed the German. "I have good news everyone. We have a chance against him in golf," Zverev captioned his Instagram Story.
Zverev was ousted by Alcaraz in Madrid
In early May, Alcaraz dismantled Zverev 6-1 6-2 in the Madrid Masters round-of-16.
A year earlier, Alcaraz crushed Zverev 6-3 6-1 in the Madrid final. After beating Zverev very easily again in Madrid this year, Alcaraz admitted he was surprised by how dominantly he defeated the German. "Well, obviously Sascha, it wasn't his best match, but, well, I didn't expect that win.
But obviously I played a great match. I didn't let him play his game. All I can say is I play my best level, and I'm really, really happy with the level that I played today," Alcaraz said after the match. Also, Alcaraz said it was "amazing" for him to deliver such a performance against a player like Zverev in front of his home fans.
“For me it’s amazing to play the level that I played today. It’s been a question mark for me. I played well, I feel really good right now and this match gives me a lot of confidence. At the beginning [I felt nerves], but you have to handle [them].
The best players in the world handle the nerves really [well] and I want to be like them. Trying not to show the opponent that I’m nervous at all. I just want to enjoy playing here in the Caja Magica in front of my home crowd.
It’s been amazing for me to play here, so I just enjoy every moment," Alcaraz said. Still, Zverev owns a 3-2 head-to-head record against Alcaraz as he defeated the Spaniard twice in 2021 and he also beat the 20-year-old at the French Open last year.
