Pat Rafter says Nick Kyrgios "can create whatever he wants to create" and also told Australian media that they should probably ask the 28-year-old personally if he could rediscover his old form following a long injury break.
After a career-best season last year, 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Kyrgios has been limited to just one tournament and one match so far in 2023. Kyrgios, who has plummeted to No 469 in the world, is likely aiming to return to action fully healthy and ready at the start of the 2024 season.
On Friday, Australian tennis legend Rafter announced the return of the Brisbane International and he was also asked if Kyrgios could make a big comeback. "He’s a unique character so you probably need to ask him," Rafter told Australian media.
Australia currently has nine top-100 players. Kyrgios, who was the top-ranked Australian male tennis player after the 2022 US Open, would have certainly been in that group as well if not for injuries in 2023. “Having all that depth in there, and having Nick there, who can create whatever he wants to create … you feed off each other,” Rafter told Australian media.

Kyrgios told his fans he aims a major comeback
After withdrawing from the US Open, Kyrgios' fanbase grew increasingly concerned. Kyrgios noticed that and he took to Instagram to highlight that he still has "some fire left in the tank" and that he will be determined to do big things when he returns to action.
"To my millions of fans out there, I guess we just have to be patient. Trust me, I still have some fire left in the tank, my body just needs time to recover and get back. I'm still as motivated as ever, in the gym, treatment, recovery.
Everything off court is doing great. I am eyeing to come back and have a season like my last again," Kyrgios wrote on his Instagram.
