Daniil Medvedev has clinched his 63rd win of the season and tied his career-high season win from 2021. On Friday, Medvedev defeated fellow Russian Karen Khachanov 6-3 3-6 6-3 in the Vienna quarterfinal. Now, Medvedev is 63-14 on the season and one win away from setting his new career-high season win total.

In the Vienna semifinal, Medvedev will be meeting his old rival Stefanos Tsitsipas. "I hope I can get one more, you never know. Tennis is a strong sport and we have strong opponents. So hopefully I can get one more win at least or maybe more.

I have had an amazing season... But it's not finished yet, so I want to try to finish it even stronger," Medvedev said of his milestone after beating Karen Khachanov.

How Medvedev beat Khachanov?

Medvedev made a great start to the match, claiming an early break and opening a 3-0 lead.

Up by an early break, Medvedev held on to his service for the remainder of the set to clinch the opener. After losing the first set, Khachanov bounced back by earning his first break of the match in the sixth game of the second set for a 4-2 lead.

One break of serve was enough for Khachanov to win the second set as he was able to hold on to his service for the remainder of the set. Medvedev responded impressively to losing the second set as the 2021 US Open champion started the third set with a 3-0 lead.

Khachanov never recovered from an early break down as Medvedev went on to complete a three-set win. "It was a very close match, so of course mentally you have to be strong and it was a long one. But at the end, one break each set.

So I'm happy that I managed to make two, and he only made one," Medvedev said. It remains to be seen if Medvedev can cap off this week with the Vienna title.
