Brisbane International tournament director Cam Person reveals Nick Kyrgios is "a wait-and-see" for the 2024 Brisbane tournament edition. Kyrgios, 28, underwent knee surgery in January before contracting after returning to tennis in June.

The Australian tennis star hoping to play at the start of the 2024 season but there are no guarantees that he will be able to play during the Australian summer. In case Kyrgios decides to play in Brisbane, the doors will be wide open for the tournament's 2018 champion.

The Brisbane International will be taking place between December 31 - January 07. "There's been a lot of conversations to see whether or not he'll be ready in time for January. That's still a wait-and-see approach. That's what Nick said.

We've got another month before entries close. Nick's got time to continue his rehab and it'd be great to see him out on the court for sure," Person told media on Friday.

Brisbane understands Kyrgios' position

In Brisbane, Kyrgios has made two main draw appearances.

Kyrgios' first Brisbane appearance came in 2013, when he was a teenager failed to make it past the qualifying event. In 2018 - in his Brisbane main draw debut - Kyrgios won the title after beating Ryan Harrison in the final.

The following year, Kyrgios failed to defend his Brisbane title after losing to Jeremy Chardy in the round-of-16. "Nick needs to do what's best for Nick. He's a former champion, really enjoys playing on Pat Rafter Arena. I'd be really hopeful that if we see him playing in January we'll see him here in Brisbane," Brisbane tournament director Pearson added.

Earlier this year, Kyrgios admitted it was extremely difficult for him to miss the Australian Open and the entire Australian summer. With that being said, there is no doubt that Kyrgios wants to return to the Australian Open and other Australian tournaments in 2024 January.
