Australian Open tournament director Craig Tiley admits he does not know yet if Nick Kyrgios will be able to compete at Melbourne Park in 2024 but also reveals that the Australian tennis star will have a role at the tournament if he is unable to play.

Kyrgios, who entered the 2023 season as the top-ranked Australian male tennis player, appeared in just one match this year due to knee and wrist injuries. Kyrgios is still recovering from his wrist injury and there are no guarantees that the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up will be ready for the start of the 2024 season.

“As I’ve said, we’re going to have Nick here in some form or another in January … hopefully it is to play because he’s a crowd-pleaser. We love watching Nick and we love having him around. It’s hard for me to predict (if he’ll play) … but it’s always likely someone is going to be ready to play because they want to play at the Australian Open," Tiley told Australian media.

Will Kyrgios recover in time for the Australian Open?

In mid-November, Kyrgios served as an analyst for Tennis Channel during the ATP Finals. In Tennis Channel's studio, Kyrgios was asked to reveal the latest in his recovery.

Answering the question, Kyrgios said at the time that he needed a couple of more weeks before a splint from his serving forearm could be removed. “After last year, I had such a great year, and I’m so hungry to get back out there.

So I’m doing everything I can to get back out there. Obviously, you know how injuries are every day, just doing the rehab, doing the gym work. But to be here and being able to watch the match we’re about to watch (between Zverev and Daniil Medvedev) makes me more hungry to get out there," Kyrgios said on Tennis Channel during the ATP Finals.
