Nick Kyrgios admits he used to "hate tennis" when he was young and shared that he is someone who has "big imposter syndrome." As a kid, Kyrgios was overweight and his mother signed him up for tennis lessons. At the time, it was done just to get Kyrgios to become active. "Well, I hated tennis when I was young.

So, you know, I was very chubby, overweight as a kid. And my mom kinda, she was like, okay, we've got to get you doing some, some, some sport or be active. So she dragged me down to the local tennis courts. And I remember I was crying all day, hated it.

Didn't want to be there anyway," Kyrgios said On Purpose with Jay Shetty. Despite not liking tennis initially, Kyrgios was actually doing well on the court. Then, Kyrgios heard his coach saying at the time: "Oh, he's picking it up pretty quickly." Kyrgios described that as "a defining moment" as from there his parents put all of their effort into helping their son make it in tennis.

Kyrgios: I have big imposter syndrome

Kyrgios, who is now 28 years old, has made a pretty good career for himself and he is now widely recognized as one of the most entertaining and popular players in the game. Kyrgios, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up, has seven titles in his collection and he has been ranked as high as No 13 in the world.

Also, Kyrgios is one of the rare players who have clinched at least one win over every Big Three member. "I never took myself seriously enough to one day be on the tour, beating people like Djokovic, Nadal, Federer. It was just never in my mind.

And then all of a sudden it just happened. And my life changed. It's like, I have big imposter syndrome. Like I'm sitting here. I watch you, my bed in my house in Canberra. I'm watching you. And then now all of a sudden I'm here having a conversation.

Like that's just, for me, it's crazy," Kyrgios said.
