The Croatian giant Ivo Karlovic has officially announced his retirement from tennis, three years after he played the last official matches of his career, in 2021.
Karlovic, who reached a quarter-final at Wimbledon as his best result in 2009, announced his retirement with a post on X.

Karlovic, as best place in the ATP world rankings, reached 14th spot, while in total he won 8 ATP titles (on all three playing surfaces) and the 2005 Davis Cup.

Karlovic: "I want to make it official my retirement"

"Dear fans and friends, I hope to find you well and with a good backhand! Some of you have noticed that it has been a while since I played in a tournament and still ask me daily if and when I will return to the tour.

I'm sorry to disappoint you, but with this letter I want to make it official and finally announce my retirement. I have had a very rewarding career, starting from extremely humble beginnings, especially for a tennis player.

Croatia was a very different country in the 80s and 90s when I was growing up, and I am very proud of my achievements and what I managed to overcome. I would like to thank all the coaches and people who have contributed to my career and development as a tennis player.

Without you this lucky journey would not have been possible. My family has provided me with amazing support and I love them immensely. I look forward to continuing to spend time with them doing things that are important to us and that fulfill us. To all of you who have been fans and supporters over the years, thank you for being a part of my journey. I love you all and hope to see you again," said the Croatian, who signed the X post as Dr. Ivo.

Karlovic then announced that he will still remain close to tennis.

"I will stay close to tennis and try to share my knowledge and all the incredible experiences I have had with the new generations of tennis players. The journey continues and the attention is redirected," Karlovic wrote.
