Small signs, but hopeful. What we have seen in recent weeks is definitely a more determined and combative Lorenzo Musetti. After a horror start to the season, from which the Carrara-based tennis player just couldn't come to terms, Musetti decided to humbly start again from the bottom, from the Challengers, to try to arrive in a good condition at Roland Garros.

A cure that has paid off, given the Italian's run in Paris, which frightened Novak Djokovic with a superlative test, surrendering only in the third set. Now the first two matches on grass, at the Atp 250 in Stuttgart, which highlighted the 22-year-old Italian's growth.

The latest positive sign was the comeback victory in the round of 16 against German Dominik Koepfer, a match in which Musetti was able to restart after the first set lost 11-9 at the tiebreak, imposing himself with a score of 6-7(9) 7-6(5) 6-3 in 2 hours and 49.

A confidence-boosting success, but one that represents an absolute first for the Carrara native in this 2024.

Lorenzo Musetti has found out the name of his opponent in the quarterfinals of the ATP 250 tournament in Stuttgart. It will be Alexander Bublik who will face the Italian for a spot in the semifinals at the Boss Open. The Kazakh ruled a discontinuous Hamad Medjedovic with a score of 6-1, 7-6( 4) .

The Serb failed to match evenly in the first set, but fought back in the second until the fateful tie-break in which he returned to hit avoidable freebies. Advancing defending champion Frances Tiafoe, seeking redemption after a subpar start to the season.

The victory against the host Koepfer in Stuttgart is the first time this year that Lorenzo Musetti has managed to win the match after going a set down.

In fact, the Italian has never managed to come back from a set down in the previous 23 occasions. A clear sign of Lorenzo's mental growth in the last period, which can be decisive in finding the best condition in view of Wimbledon and, in a few months, the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

The two consecutive victories, against Mpetshi Perricard and against Koepfer, are worth Musetti's first quarter-final of the season in an ATP tournament. The Italian's next opponent will be the whimsical Kazakh tennis player Alexander Bublik.
