It heralded a fascinating challenge, balanced, full of emotions, but probably exceeded even the most optimistic expectations. The match between Jannik Sinner and Matteo Berrettini was a commercial for the sport.

The two Italians boys gave life to a show that we had witnessed a few times, in the history of Italian tennis. To win in the end was the player given by all as a favorite, Sinner, but few would have expected with so much effort.

The number one in the world, thanks to this success can carry on a statistic nothing short of hallucinatory. He is the only player, along with Bob Hewitt (Australia) and Guillermo Vilas (Argentina), to have 14 wins in as many games against their countrymen.

The World number 1 has proven to be the strongest player at the moment and aims to win his second Grand Slam after the Australian Open 2024.

Impressive numbers for Jannik Sinner

World number one, Jannik Sinner, advanced to the third round of Wimbledon after staying with an epic match against fellow countryman Matteo Berrettini, whom he beat in four sets by 7-6 (3), 7-6 (4), 2-6 and 7-6 (4) after three hours and 42 minutes of play.

Impressive numbers for Jannik Sinner, who make him the undisputed leader of Italian tennis, as he has also amply shown enthralling the group led by Filippo Volandri to the second historic success of the Davis Cup.

These were his words at the conference, at the end of the match against his friend Berrettini: "It was a tough match, he played and served above all very well. I made a few too many mistakes in the third set and his confidence grew but it was a great game and I’m happy to have won it in four sets.

We both expected a high level, he moves very well here and as it went, the level was much higher than a second round. Unfortunately we can’t control the draw. Against Matteo, a great grass player, even the small details make the difference. Fortunately it went well", he concluded.
