Tennis - Two seeds have made an early exit at the Rolex Monte Carlo Masters on Tuesday. 13th seed Mikhail Youzhny and 16th seeded Jerzy Janowicz both failed to make it past the first round - going down in straight sets.
Youzhny, playing his first match since Dubai due to injury, was rusty and it showed as he went down to Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3,7-6 in a tight contest. This was Seppi's first win over Youzhny in five career meetings.
Meanwhile, Janowicz was beaten by the French veteran Michael Llodra 4-6, 2-6. Janowicz is now 8-9 for the season and has struggled with injuries and poor form as well. Llodra had won two matches to come through the qualifying draw this week.
Yen-Hsun Lu also advanced to the second round, beating Argentine Federico Delbonis 7-6, 6-1. In an early doubles match, the pairing of Milos Raonic and Ernests Gulbis were beaten by Colombian duo Cabal/ Farah 4-6, 4-6.
Second seed and defending champion Novak Djokovic takes the court later today for his second round match.
