The ATP announced today that they will be launching two brand new boards as part of their long term plan to build on "the recent unprecedented growth and success of men's professional tennis". The Business Advisory Board will consists of a wide range of renowned business experts, including internationally renowned fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger and Vice president of 21st Century Fox David Hill.
Meanwhile the Ledgends Advisory Board will include player's such as John McEnroe and Boris Becker. Commenting on the new formation, ATP CEO Chris Kermode told the media that the sport "is in great health" but they need to continue to build on that and grow.
"It's a very exciting time for men's professional tennis". Kermode said
"The sport is in great health and we've seen the record audiences on site, on television and online.
But it's important that we continue to build and move forward". Kermode has said that the decision to create the two groups was based on feedback from players and tournament officials during the year. He said that the ATP needs to have a look at their business side.
He then talked about moving the ATP with the times and that young people are absorbing information in different ways as supposed to past generations. "We've got to present it in a dynamic way". Kermode said
Kids are now taking in information and absorbing its content in a completely different way to when I was growing up as a kid, and we need to adapt to that".
Kermode said that the two boards will help form a structure and vision for the ATP Tour and that he intends to do a 10-year plan which will incorporate their ideas. The boards conducted their first meeting this morning in what was described as a general "brain storm" of their ideas.
