Gael Monfils and Gilles Simon go through to Quarterfinals in Marseille

Tennis: The French No.2 Gilles Simon and the French No.3 Gael Monfils have kept the home hopes going, as they reached the Quarterfinals of the Open 13 ATP 250 Tournament in Marseille. 2007 Marseille champion and fifth seed Simon had to spent just few minutes more than an hour, as his opponent, compatriot and qualifier Pierre-Hugues Herbert retired in the second set when Simon had taken the first set 7-5 and was leading 2-0 in the second. Seventh seed Gael Monfils also spent 1 hour and 5 minutes only, as he got past Andrey Kuznetsov in straight sets 6-3, 6-2.

This Monfil's seventh appearance here and he has never gone past the Quarterfinals here. Sixth seed David Goffin also reached the Quarterfinals after getting past Jerzy Janowicz in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. Luca Vanni, who surprised everybody after reaching the final in Sao Paulo last week, bowed out in the first round here after losing to his Italian countryfellow Simone Bolelli 6-4, 7-6(4). In last match of the day, fourth seed Roberto Bautista Agut went through to the last 8, after beating Vasek Pospisil 7-5, 6-4.
