Following his straight sets victory over Andrey Golubev in the second round of the ATP Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, Novak Djokovic switched the attention from him to 18-year-old Borna Coric.
Speaking to the media after his win, the world number one was full of praise when speaking about Coric. "I trained with him several times and I can say that for his age, he is not just good, but he is definitely the best in the world" said Djokovic.
Earlier on this week Djokovic told the media that Coric reminded him of his younger self. He said that when he practice with the 18-year-old, "he sees himself through him", which he has never felt before when practicing with somebody.
Coric is currently at a ranking high of 84 in the world. Like Djokovic, the Croatian player is currently playing in Dubai. He suffered a shock defeat in the final round of the qualifying in the event to Fabrice Martin, however, he managed to progress to the main draw after being awarded a lucky loser place.
The lucky spot has certainly benefitted the youngster as he edged out Malek Jaziri and Marcos Baghdatis to set up a third round showdown against Andy Murray today. Throughout 2014 Coric produced three wins against top 20 players with the most significant being Rafael Nadal in the quarter final of the ATP Basel Open.
He is currently the youngest player in the top 100 by one and a half years.
