The Nick Kyrgios Controversy: Stan Wawrinka Hits Back

Stan Wawrinka has heavily criticised Nick Kyrgios following his controversial comments during their second round encounter at the Rogers Cup in Montreal, Canada. The media frenzy erupted after the Australian was caught on camera saying to Wawrinka that ‘Kokkkinaakis banged his girlfriend’.

It is reported that Wawrinka is currently dating world No.127 Donna Vekic. Following the match in which Wawrinka retired in the third set due to a back injury, the French Open champion responded to the comments on his Twitter account.

Wawrinka wasn’t the only player to be critical of the Australian's on court antics. Two-time Australian Open champion Victoria Azarenka Tweeted “U have to respect ur opponent...

Everyone has to... Always”. Despite the criticism, Kyrgios has dismissed the significance of the incident in his post-match press conference, describing it as ‘the heat of the moment’.

The is yet to be any official comment from the ATP after Wawrinka called for action to be taken against the 20-year-old.

Following his loss the Swiss said that Kyrgios ‘behaves badly’ during all of his matches. Earlier this year the 20-year-old was accused of tanking during his fourth round match against Richard Gasquet at Wimbledon.

An accusation which he denies. Following his controversial match Kyrgios will play John Isner in the third round.
