According to L'Equipe, Nicolas Mahut, who was beaten by Bernard Tomic in Brisbane last Tuesday, despite being accompanied by his main coach Gabriel Urpi, is also followed by a special former tennis player, Mark Woodforde.
The Australian, who won alongside Todd Woodbridge 11 Slam tournaments in doubles and a Gold Medal in Atlanta in 1996, will coach the French player during the Australian Open while Urpi will follow Fed Cup players who are set to play in the qualifying draw in Melbourne.
This year Mahut lost to Andy Murray in the first round in Rotterdam. He won St. Brieuc Challenger beating in the final Yulchi Sugita, while reached Roland Garros third round losing to Gilles Simon. In the second half of the season Mahut won s-Hertogenbosch title beating David Goffin in the fina and he did it as a qualifier! He lost to Tomas Berdych in Wimbledon at the debut and to Guillermo Garcia Lopez at the US Open second round.
